Architect and Landscape Gardener

The Lafourcades

Provence, France

If like me, you are a lover of all things Provencal then you will love the Lafourcades; a family firm producing the most sophisticated French design.

Bruno and Alexandre Lafourcade is a Provence based architecture practice responsible for some of the most picturesque properties in the South of France. Specialising in renovating chateaux, period houses, farmhouses and even abbeys into modern day spaces encapsulating the pinnacle of the region’s design.

Experts in creating a natural setting which is true to the landscape, they have become the go to architects for property owners hoping to transform old French farms (known as a ‘mas’) into magnificent bastides (the french term for ‘country house’). I should also mention, the bricks and mortar are only half the story, they work in conjunction with Bruno’s wife - the brilliant Landscape designer, Dominique Lafourcade, to create a framework of a definitive Mediterranean garden.

Every property I see of theirs I love, and although Bruno has sadly died, his son Alexander continues to create success in each one of their projects, expertly applying their extensive knowledge of the Provence region’s vernacular heritage.

The Look: Symmetrical Facades, Perfect Proportions, High Windows, Pastel Shutters, Un-rendered Walls, Stone Floors, Terracotta pots and evergreen gardens.
